All self clinch studs are waterproof aren’t they......?
 Well actually not necessarily
 Well actually not necessarily
Self clinch studs are by design pressed into a prepared hole and displacers on the stud move metal into special grooves to secure the stud. Generally this will create a secure installation which is completely flush on one side, with the stud protruding from the reverse side.Â
This will give a very strong stud fixing, however owing to variations in both manufacture and the hole itself there is no guarantee that there would be no water penetration if the assembly was exposed  to wet weather, let alone significant pressure from one side or the other.Â
If you need to create a panel with studs fitted we now have a solution for you which passes approved IP testing – with no sealants, o-rings or other additional materials involved
Manufactured in aluminium, steel, and precipitation hardened stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance, these studs will install into the hardest materials including 300 grade stainless.Â
The new IFH™ Stud is the first ingress protection fastener from PEM® that creates a watertight seal and meets ISO: 20653-2014 and IPX7 and IPX9K standards for ingress protection.
This new flush-head, self clinching stud is redesigned for maximum material flow into the stud undercut – plus tighter tolerances and process controls that ensure you maintain consistent, reliable ingress protection.
•   Meets ISO:20653-2014 ingress protection levels
•   Ingress repellent capability, meeting IPX7 and IPX9K IP ratings
•   No rubber gasket or sealants needed
•   Testing completed in CR4 steel, 6082-T6 aluminium, and 304 stainless steel
The improved design and quality controls of the IFH stud allow for an ingress prevention joint to be used with a clinch design. No sealant or O-Ring is required in the joint to maintain ingress prevention. The joint is instantly sealed upon installation.
